With music to elsewhere

Three awesome artists visited us yesterday.
They performed many songs with their instruments and we also danced a vals with their rhythm.
The "Master" recorded many incredible moments of the performance and created a video:

And we were begging for listening the Super Mario Bros Soundtrack, so here we have it!!!!

And my favourite one, when Super Mario dies....

Visiting museums in Cartagena

There are many special events and activities organised in museums around the world and also in Cartagena, so why not take this opportunity to visit the ARQUA to you? Here is some key vocabulary to help you out:
a curator – a person who oversees and manages a museum and its collections
The curator is an expert in her field.
a tour guide – a person employed to show tourists around places of interest
Our tour guide was very informative!
preservation – to maintain something in its original or existing state
As The Roman Boats over 3000 years old, there are many people working on its preservation.
an exhibition – a public display of works of art or items of interest held in a museum or gallery for people to see
I would like to visit the Sherlock Holmes exhibition at the ARQUA Museum  in October.
an admission fee – the fee charged to enter a place
Many museums in Cartagena do not have admission fees.
a donation – something that you give in order to help a person or organisation
There is a recommended donation of 2 Euros.
an artifact (artefact – UK) – an object made by a human being, of cultural or historical interest
By exhibiting artifacts from the past, museums can teach us a lot about different periods in history.
a collection – a group of accumulated paintings, documents, or artifacts grouped together by a particular theme
The British Museum collection totals at least 8 million objects.
cultural – relating to the arts and to intellectual achievements
Visiting a museum is an example of a fun cultural activity.
a gift shop – a shop that sells items appropriate as gifts
My favourite thing about a trip to a museum is visiting the gift shop!
to wander (around) – to walk slowly across or around an area, usually without clear purpose.

A minstrel called Crispín was here....

Our music teacher, Yolanda, invited one minstrel to visit us and perform with his "strange" instruments.

He was very interesting for us, because of his dress, his way of communicate, his knowledge of many medieval musical instruments and his amazing story about the "Cabra Montesina", a popular Spanish story.

In the next video, you can check how was the performance of an English minstrel song, enjoy again!!

Adjectives

An adjective is a word that describes a noun in a sentence.

The car is dirty.
It is a blue pant.
I like big apples.
This is a expensive trip.

For comparisons, we can use adjectives and the following structure:

Noun + verb to be + (short adjective adding -er) + than + noun.
(f.e.) This car is bigger than that car.
The new Tvs are smarter than radios.

Or

Noun + verb to be + more + adjective + than + noun.
(f.e.) Children are more intelligent than fishes.
My mum is more beautiful than my English teacher.

Here we have some activities for reinforce this information while we play:

"Ghost Stories" with Cia. Teatro La Paca

Today was a wonderful day. We went to Cartagena by bus, concretely to the Centro Cultura "Ramón Alonso Luzzy" and we enjoyed a nice piece of art, a theater performance made by Teatro La Paca Company.

Click in the image below to open the Web with information

We showed our oral Comprehension and our nice behavior in the outsides. Our teachers said us that they are proud of us, it is a great!!

The performance was very interesting, with lots of references to scary tv series, as The Twilight Zone, Monster family among others...

They referenced song inspired in monsters or scary situations, as Thriller By Michael Jackson and Sympathy for the Devil by Rolling Stones (Or my favorite version, the Guns´N´Roses Version).

There were a lot of horror films related with the theatre, for instance, a Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien Saga, Scream and many others.

Books were an important part, for example, they spoke about Mary Shelley, the Frankenstein author, Stephen King, one of the most prolific horror author, and Charles Dickens shining among others.

Finally, we are going to complete the job, working with contents like vocabulary, expressions and some other references to our foreign language.

Teatro la Paca proposed us some exercises to revise and check how many thing we know, just take a look at home so we are going to do it at school.

The news: David Bowie dies

David Bowie was one of the most important singer and composer of the XX century. Unfortunately, he died yesterday because of a cancer disease.

In order to let you know his songs, here you have my two favorite tunes of him, based in outer space and starships and astronauts, etc..

Didn't know what time it was and the lights were low
I leaned back on my radio
Some cat was layin' down some rock 'n' roll 'lotta soul,
he said

Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase
That weren't no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive

[CHORUS]
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie

I had to phone someone so I picked on you
Hey, that's far out so you heard him too!
Switch on the TV
we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window I can see his light

If we can sparkle he may land tonight
Don't tell your poppa or he'll get us locked up in fright

[CHORUS (x2)]

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Christmas vocabulary

We can find a lot of vocabulary related to Christmas searching by the Internet. For instance, in this web http://www.saberingles.com.ar/lists/christmas.html.

Parties and holidays are different in each country, so it's valuable if we know the British Christmas parties:
  • Advent is the period of four weeks before Christmas. The Advent calendar originated in Germany. It consists of a card with 25 little doors, which are opened each day until Christmas. Behind each door there is a Christmas scene and usually a piece of chocolate for the kids.
  • Christmas Eve is on December 24th. It's the night when Santa Claus (in the USA) or Father Christmas (in the UK) comes and fills the children's stockings with presents.
  • Christmas Day is on December 25th. People usually go to mass and have a meal together with their family or friends. The Queen gives a traditional speech.
  • Boxing Day is on December 26th. People give presents to servants and friends. In the UK it's a public holiday. It originated in medieval times, when every priest was supposed to open the alms box and distribute the money or gifts to the poor people.
  • Twelfth Night is on January 6th. There's a period of Twelve Days after Christmas, during which people gathers with friends and have parties. The "Three Kings' Day" is not celebrated in England or USA.

Now, some interesting word translations into Spanish.
