Don't be foolish..... Prank a fool!!!

As we have seen at the class, today is April Fools' day, a special day celebrated every year on 1 April by playing practical jokes and spreading hoaxes. The jokes and their victims are called April fools. People playing April Fool jokes expose their prank by shouting April Fool

Some newspapers, magazines, and other published media report fake stories, which are usually explained the next day or below the news section in small letters. Although popular since the 19th century, the day is not a public holiday in any country.

28 December, the equivalent day in Spain and Hispanic America, is also the Christian day of celebration of the "Day of the Holy Innocents". The Christian celebration is a holiday in its own right, a religious one, but the tradition of pranks is not, though the latter is observed yearly. After somebody plays a joke or a prank on somebody else, the joker usually cries out, in some regions of Ibero-America: Inocente palomita que te dejaste engañar ("You innocent little dove that let yourself be fooled").

There are many examples of false-news in media, for instance, social networks as Twitter and Facebook, TV, radios and also important Newspapers.

Now, I propose you a sort list of pranks to use celebrating the April Fools' day:

  • Put dye pellets under the cap of the faucet:

  • Cover the remote season with a piece of tape.

  • Everything with eyes in the refrigerator, an awkward situation:

  • Put some Jell-o in a glass, it will seem a fruit juice:

And a Classic prank, tape an air horn to the wall next to the door.

Limericks for St. Patrick's day...

One fun, easy and literary way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day is sing limericks together. A limerick is a witty or nonsensical poem that is short and simple, so kids, tweens and adults alike can all write and sing them.  Limericks are meant to be humorous and while they are often bawdy, you can leave that aspect out if the kids are around.

FamousLiteraryWorks.com explains that the word "limerick" as derives from the Irish town of Limerick. Apparently a pub song or tavern chorus based on the refrain 'Will you come up to Limerick?' where, of course, such bawdy songs or 'Limericks' were sung.

Here are some facts about Limerick:
  • Limerick is both a city and a county in Ireland;
  • Limerick is the fifth largest city in Ireland with a population of approximately 60,000;
  • The River Shannon runs through the center of Limerick;
  • Limerick is the setting for Angela's Ashes, Frank McCourt's best-selling memoir;
  • King John's Castle is located on King's Island in Limerick. Built in 1210, this is a perfect example of fortified Norman architecture in Ireland;
  • You can read about the city's St. Patrick's Day Plans in the Limerick Leader.

Now, the Leprechaun's Limerick for St. Patrick's Day:

There once was a green leprechaun,
Who jigged with his pointy shoes on,
To the left and the right,
He could jig through the night,
Til the break of St. Patrick's Day dawn.

Now, some stuff for you, many types of tasks and exercises for enjoying St. Patrick's day:

Valentine's day

The 14th of February is Valentine's Day, and as all we know, the lovers day.

We are children and we love many people, as our teachers, friends, family....

Here you have an interesting video explaining the history of V´s day:

Mr. Mike and his puppet recorded a cute and useful video talking about Valentine´s day too

Do you know who is Cupid? He is a famous person from Valentine's Day. In Roman mythology Cupid is the son of Venus, goddess of love. His counterpart in Greek mythology is Eros, god of love. Cupid is often said to be a mischievous boy who goes around wounding both gods and humans with his arrows, causing them to fall in love.

Visiting museums in Cartagena

There are many special events and activities organised in museums around the world and also in Cartagena, so why not take this opportunity to visit the ARQUA to you? Here is some key vocabulary to help you out:
a curator – a person who oversees and manages a museum and its collections
The curator is an expert in her field.
a tour guide – a person employed to show tourists around places of interest
Our tour guide was very informative!
preservation – to maintain something in its original or existing state
As The Roman Boats over 3000 years old, there are many people working on its preservation.
an exhibition – a public display of works of art or items of interest held in a museum or gallery for people to see
I would like to visit the Sherlock Holmes exhibition at the ARQUA Museum  in October.
an admission fee – the fee charged to enter a place
Many museums in Cartagena do not have admission fees.
a donation – something that you give in order to help a person or organisation
There is a recommended donation of 2 Euros.
 an artifact (artefact – UK) – an object made by a human being, of cultural or historical interest
By exhibiting artifacts from the past, museums can teach us a lot about different periods in history.
a collection – a group of accumulated paintings, documents, or artifacts grouped together by a particular theme
The British Museum collection totals at least 8 million objects.
cultural – relating to the arts and to intellectual achievements
Visiting a museum is an example of a fun cultural activity.
a gift shop – a shop that sells items appropriate as gifts
My favourite thing about a trip to a museum is visiting the gift shop!
to wander (around) – to walk slowly across or around an area, usually without clear purpose.
